After 11 hours on the drip, the doctor decided to we should call it a night.
The babies are fine: the rythms of their little hearts remained pretty constant, meaning they did not become distressed. We were surprised and elated to hear them described by the nurses as "well behaved" and "calm." We can only hope that they are setting a precedent.
And since there is no fetal distress, there is no rush to deliver them. Better cut our losses for today and let Elisa eat some food (1st turkey sandwich since April 2008) and get some much needed rest.
The pitocin drip will resume at 3 or 4am, with the goal of reaching "active labor" sometime before noon tomorrow.
No one said it would be easy, and they definately never said it would be fast - especially for a "first timer."
