Bad News: Adrian's visit to the pediatrician revealed that he does suffer from congenital torticollis, which means his neck muscles are growing disproportionately (essentially, the muscle is shorter on one side).
Good News: His condition is mild and treatable. The muscles can be stretched using head positioning exercises.
Bad News: These exercises must be performed at least 3x a day for at least a few months but probably well past his 1st birthday.
Good News: The exercises only take a few minutes at a time.
Bad News: He cries energetically for the duration of this time.
Good News: He seems to be responding well to the treatment, and we noticed that he already looks right less and left more.
Bad News: We haven’t been vigilant about doing the exercises 3x a day.
Good News: We are committed to doing the exercises as often and for as long as it takes.
In other news, we celebrated Mother’s Day with an afternoon at Maryland’s National Harbor. We walked around, had lunch at a fancy Asian restaurant, then spent a few hours in the atrium of the Gaylord Resort sipping espresso while enjoying a fountain show (complete with a soundtrack) and riding the glass elevator to the 19th floor (though a bout of vertigo prevented Elisa from enjoying it).

ReplyDeleteThat was my same reaction after seeing these photos...it must be more and more rewarding to see them starting to look this way and act in more distinct ways, too..
