When the boys are in their cribs but don't want to sleep, they always empty the crib of it's contents so that Elisa and I can pick them up off the floor. They toss out their empty bottles, pillows, and stuffed animals.
Well Vincent has taken it a step further recently, and he's been ripping the sheet off the mattress and jettisoning that as well. The other night I thought I'd teach him a lesson: I decided to leave the sheet off so that he'd be forced to sleep on the naked plastic mattress. I believed the discomfort would deter him from removing the sheet in the future.
Maybe it was the missing sheet and maybe it wasn't, but at God-knows-what-hour the next morning, Vinny was screaming, Elisa and I were forced to go downstairs and investigate. We put the sheet back on the bed and gave him some milk and he was quite after that.
So who learned more from this experiment: us or him? Exactly who is teaching who a lesson they won't soon forget?
