at national harbor with their avos.
The little buggers are growing fast.
They are clearly stronger: when placed on their bellies, they can hold themselves up on their arms, with back arched, and chin up for 15 minutes or more. They will be crawling soon, no doubt.
We noticed they are more sensitive to tickling, and they have uttered their first laughs: it's a light giggle that sounds like it's mixed with talking.
They are talking more and more. They will moan loudly and incessantly if they want attention and aren't getting any, just like their Mom! . . . . JK, amor, LOL !!!!!!!! OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After weeks of sucking on their fists, they are finding other uses for their hands. Though there is still much room for improvement, the primitive motor skills and eye-hand coordination are beginning to lead to deliberate and successful actions.
Vinny is once again leading the way. First, Elisa and I were shocked to find that he had reached up and grabbed a toy hanging over their play-mat. A week or so later, he grabbed the pacifier out of his mouth and held on to it. Recently, he even manged to put the pacifier back into his mouth! He didn't seem to mind that he was sucking on the edge, instead of the nipple.
It is entertaining to watch them concentrate and raise their little hands, batting at or petting an object many times before managing to get one or more of their little fingers around it. They also enjoy squeezing anything they can get their fingers around, especially your shirt (or skin - ouch - those little nails can dig in!)
As I'm writing this, it just occurred to me that every physical action we perform (usually without so much as a thought), was once learned through concentration, painstaking practice, and unwavering determination.
Phenomenal.
great post. its great watching a baby progress. jack just hit 10 months, and last week he was playing with this ginormous mobile that one of the relatives gave him. normally playing = grabbing onto one of the planets, and sticking it straight in his mouth, and sucking off the chinese lead-based paint. however, this time for some reason, he figured out that he could palm a planet with his left hand, go through a wind-up, and launch it, causing the whole mobile to go crazy, which he liked. so now our kid can throw. which is a plus and minus, because dinner time is now emphatically messier. when i held him the opposite way to see him throw it with his right hand... it looked like a chicken wing, and he never got the motion right, and would just drop the planet. we might have a left-hander... at least for now.
ReplyDeleteby the way, i love the fact that whenever i read your posts i feel like a know-it-all. im like, yeah, been there done that. funny how cocky you can get when you have a kid who happened to be born just a few months earlier, and then you feel you have the right to teach all new parents everything based on your one experience. pretty lame. next time we cross paths at a reunion tournament, slap me in the face, knock me over, then yell 'CONTEST!!!'
whoops, posted that from a random account. joe g.
